This page showcases a selection of my work, from recording traditional Cornish harmonies to producing genre-crossing collaborations and running grassroots music initiatives across Cornwall.

PhD Ethnomusicology
practise based researcher
My research focuses on Cornish Music and Dances as living heritage. I use methods such as participatory and action based research and engage with UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage framework. My current working title is 'Strengthening the systems and pathways that sustain Cornish Music and Dance as living heritage.'
Hireth
arranger & vocalist
Hireth are an exceptional four-part harmony vocal group, singing in the Cornish language, Kernewek. Their fresh arrangements consist of striking original works, and traditional Cornish songs like you’ve never heard them before. The ensemble blends a range of musical backgrounds, bringing together songwriter Anna Anise composer Matthew Thomason, and vocalist Millie Young.

Lostwithiel Concert Series

The Lostwithiel Concert Series is a monthly music programme and community event series based in St Bartholomew’s Church Lostwithiel that brings folk, traditional, acoustic, and world‑music performances to Cornwall by a selection of the UK's top touring artists.
Cornwall Youth Folk Ensemble
founder & leader
The Cornwall Youth Folk Ensemble (part of the wider Perghenegi initiative) is a new programme launched by Lowender and ASONE in summer 2024. It offers a musical gathering for young people aged 16–25, aimed at exploring, celebrating, and co‑creating traditional Cornish folk music.

Bailey Tomkinson & the Locals

Hailed by The Metro, Vogue, Wonderland & more, fronting Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals, recently being called the UK’s answer to “Daisy Jones & The Six,” earning comparisons to Stevie Nicks. Hailed by BBC Introducing, The band tour extensively around the UK festivals including Boardmasters, Wilderness & The Great Escape.

Oxford Maqam

On 1 June 2024, Oxford Maqam debuted their 1940s Egyptian tango band alongside their hit jazz big band playing 1950s classics of the genre. King Edward Professor of Music, Martin Stokes, worked with KCL Liberal Arts alumni Jake Fletcher and SOAS PhD student, Daniel Woodfield, to arrange eight charts for the band. These transcriptions were based on audio records by established Egyptian singer, Abdel Halim Hafez whose works brought together an Arabic sound and other influences from around the world.
Will Keating

Will Keating is a passionate Cornish cultural ambassador: a singer-songwriter whose work spans traditional tunes, original compositions, community engagement, and social activism. With several recordings, theatre performances, tours, and charity efforts under his belt, he's a vibrant presence in Cornwall's music scene.
